John Stuart Dowie OAM Estate to be Auctioned in Adelaide

Paintings, sculptures, maquettes, antique furniture and collectables belonging to the late sculptor John Stuart Dowie OAM will be sold in Adelaide on Sunday 15 February at 1pm. Dowie was a prolific South Australian artist who is best remembered for his public sculptures, most notably his statue of the Queen in the grounds of Parliament House in Canberra and the Three Rivers fountain in Adelaide’s Victoria Square.
Highlights of the sale include several portrait busts of historical figures created by the artist, including one of Ludwig Van Beethoven estimated at $8,000 – 12,000 and a bronze bust of a child by George Rayner Hoff Nereida estimated at $12,000 – 15,000.
Also to be offered on other accounts is the Burke, Wills & King breastplate and a 1930 Australian penny together with a penny coin collection.
