Adelaide Bank Collection Auction

Published June 8th, 2008

The Adelaide Bank has announced the appointment of Bonhams & Goodman to conduct the auction of its corporate art collection.

The collection, to be auctioned at Bonhams & Goodman’s Adelaide premises in November, includes 238 works valued at $1.3 million.

The Adelaide Bank collection is being sold subsequent to its merger with Bendigo Bank, and heralds a change of direction in the Bank’s art acquisition strategy. The Bank plans to replace the current collection with work from emerging artists, which will be regularly rotated to give the new artists maximum opportunity and exposure.

Jamie McPhee, Adelaide Bank’s former Chief Executive Officer, said ‘We see ourselves as an innovative, community minded business, and as such, we want to give new artists the opportunity to showcase their work in a high profile environment’.

The collection will be viewed at Bonhams & Goodman’s Sydney and Melbourne premises before being auctioned in Adelaide in November. James Bruce, Managing Director of Bonhams & Goodman, Adelaide, said that he anticipated enormous interest in the artworks from around the country.
