Pro Hart auction

Published April 18th, 2008

Pro Hart’s personal collection, which featured some of Australia’s greatest artists, was sold off piece by piece in the ‘100 Important Works of Art’ auction by South Yarra auction house, Deutscher and Hackett, totaling more than $2.5m.

The executive director of the auction house Damien Hackett, says the first night of the Melbourne auction of works from Pro Hart’s private collection was very successful. 104 lots went under the hammer in Melbourne and everything from Hart’s estate was sold.

He says a lot-record price was fetched for one of Pro Hart’s treasures – a 1893 Tom Roberts’ full length portrait, which achieved $312,000. Mr Hackett says he would have liked a better price for the portrait.
