RARE VICTORIA CROSS At BONHAMS & GOODMAN

Published October 26th, 2007

On Sunday 11 November 2007, Bonhams & Goodman will make auction history when it offers another rare and important Victoria Cross for sale at public auction. Only 96 Victoria Crosses have been awarded to Australians and amazingly, this will be the third example auctioned by the firm in sixteen months.

This Victoria Cross was awarded to Private William Jackson (1897-1959), a Private with the 17th Battalion in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) for his services at the Western Front in France during World War I. At 18, Jackson is the youngest Australian recipient to have been awarded the prestigious VC. He was also the first Australian soldier to receive the honour for bravery at the Western Front.
