Australian, International & Aboriginal Art, Monday 20 November, Melbourne

Published October 23rd, 2007

Geoffrey Smith, National Head of Art at Bonhams & Goodman was delighted when advised of the consignment and has researched the work thoroughly. “John Olsen’s remarkable sweeping, panoramic visions of the Australian landscape produced in the early 1980s represent a highpoint in the history and development of Australian art. These complex creations, that combine intelligence and humour with an understanding of country and place, were painted when the artist lived in the hamlet of Clarendon in South Australia, approximately 30 kilometres outside Adelaide,” says Smith.

Dutton’s Island will be on view in Adelaide next week from 10am -4pm on Thursday 1 November at Lyrics, Adelaide Festival Centre, King William Road, Adelaide. The work will be accompanied by 18 other works of art from the Melbourne auction including paintings by Arthur Boyd, Sidney Nolan, Jeffrey Smart, Albert Tucker and Brett Whiteley.
