Australia’s newest fine art auction house, Deutscher Hackett, has appointed businessman and art patron Ian Hicks AM as its inaugural chairman.

The Deputy Chairman of the National Gallery of Victoria Foundation, Hicks will become an equal third equity holder in the new business, along with co-directors Chris Deutscher and Damian Hackett.

“We are delighted to have a person of Ian’s passion, commitment and corporate wisdom as an integral part of the team. He will make a strong contribution to the business and is part of an operation which will have significant financial depth from day one,” Deutscher said.

The company has also set a date for its inaugural auction, to be held in its new, purpose-built 600 square metre exhibition galleries in Melbourne’s South Yarra on 9 May. Target sales are set in excess of $6 million.

Deutscher Hackett, which plans to a second base in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, will also hold auctions in August in Melbourne and November in Sydney.
