VC sells for $486,000 at Sydney auction

A World War I Victoria Cross (VC) medal has been sold at auction in Sydney for $486,000 with commissions and GST.
The identity of the buyer is not yet known.
The medal was originally awarded to Townsville’s Lance Corporal Bernard Gordon in 1918 for his actions in France.

Profit warning issued by Turners Car Auctions

WWI Victoria Cross for auction

Months after the record-breaking sale of a rare Victoria Cross, another one has come up for auction.
Lance Corporal Bernard Sidney Gordon’s grand-daughter is reluctantly selling his medal to help provide for her extended family.
In 1915, 24-year-old Lance Corporal Bernard Gordon joined the 41st battalion in Townsville.

Original handwritten lyrics by Sir Paul McCartney and a guitar once owned by the late Jimi Hendrix are among the items in an upcoming New York auction of rock memorabilia.

Number plates auctioned for over $200,000

ONE of the first pair of number plates issued in Victoria fetched almost $220,000 at a Melbourne auction tonight.
The plates, pressed in 1910, read “VIC 41″ signifying they were issued for the 41st vehicle registered in the state.
