Ashes ticket scalpers

Published May 31st, 2006

Cricket Australia has warned scalpers and desperate Ashes fans they are armed with “secret” new techniques to identify and cancel black market tickets.
An unprecedented rush for Ashes tickets begins this morning with the 125,000-strong CA Family given the first opportunity to secure seats for Australia-England series next summer.

But with the general on-sale date not until June 19, an overwhelming interest for tickets in the UK is certain to ramp up black market activity almost immediately.

Despite CA’s efforts to clamp down on re-selling, internet auction sites such as Ebay are already home to dozens of offers of Ashes tickets that sellers are promising to attain today.

But CA is promising vigilance and says it will hunt down scalpers and on-sold tickets both online and new tactics that can somehow identify shady transactions.
