Holdens at Shannons Auction
Published May 23rd, 2006
Two great ‘barn find’ Holdens being offered with no price reserve are already exciting collectors well in advance of their auction by Shannons in Melbourne on June 5.
The main interest has been the blue and somewhat battered one-owner and very original HK GTS Monaro that is the ideal basis for a restoration project.
Fitted with the common 70’s conversion of the twin-headlight grille from the HK Premier, the Monaro is otherwise superbly original and is still fitted with its unmodified 307-cid V8, automatic transmission.
While not as rare as the race-orientated Monaro 327 GTS, the 307 GTS is nevertheless highly collectable – not only because it was the first Monaro, but also because it was Australia’s answer to America’s ’Pony cars’ and it was also the first Holden to offer a V8 engine option.
Shannons are suggesting a price guide in the $14,000-$20,000 range, but a totally stripped and original1968 HK Monaro GTS 327 ‘Bathurst’ coupe sold without reserve for $55,000 at their November 2005 auction in Melbourne, so anything is possible!
As an alternative, Shannons have four other interesting Holdens in the June 5.
